Only in the movies

Today the craziest thing happened to Hollyn and I. I was helping Hollyn go to the bathroom in the girl's bathroom at Target when we hear the loudest flush. I don't think much of it until I see water flowing into our stall and I mean flowing. I made sure Hollyn was done going and yank her off the potty with her pants down and all and rush out of the stall. I quickly pull up Hollyn's pants and see water spraying out of the stall two stalls down. I haven't figured out how to get past the spraying toilet yet, so I quickly wash her hands and reach for my camera to take a quick picture, because I'm not sure anyone will believe me. Just as I take my camera out a Target worker comes in and shuts the stall door for us as we run out of the bathroom. The water was literally flowing out of the bathroom into the hall. My socks were even wet. It was something you would see in the movies and think it would never happen in real life. Only the coolest things happen in Lincoln Nebraska. Sorry no pictures it was either a picture or running dry without a picture or wet with a picture.

Good, Better, Best

To start off many of you may be wondering what's going on with my new background. I decided to go with some colors that represent the weather we have been having. Hopefully we will be seeing some yellows soon. Some of you may know that for the past several years I have had church calling either in nursery or primary. Just last Sunday I received a new calling, one I have never had before, a Relief Society Teacher. Some of you may be groaning at this calling, but to tell you the truth I was excited. Don't get me wrong, I love primary and nursery, but I am excited for this new challenge. I have my first lesson on Sunday and I teach from conference talks and my lesson is from Elder Oaks talk "Good, Better, Best." I really loved the talked and have enjoyed preparing for my lesson. He talks about all the good things we do in life, but there are better and best things that we can be doing. For instance he talks about not just doing our Visiting Teaching every month, but actually spiritually uplifting those we visit teach enriching their lives. This got me thinking about the times in life we say "Things will be better when." It would be so easy for me to say things will be better when Dan's done with his first year of law school or when he's finished with law school. But to be honest, that just sets me up for things will be better when Dan is not working so many hours. So, I took a look at my life and realized that things are better now. I love that Dan has taken on the difficult task of law school. I love that he is following his dream and we are having a great adventure together as a family in a new place meeting new people. I am happy and grateful that I have an amazing husband and daughter who love me. I feel bad for these young celebrities who everyone thinks has the best lives, because they are famous and rich, but to be honest they are lonely and depressed. So here's to the New Year of not reaching for good or better, but always striving for the best!

SNOW!!

When the only temperatures you are seeing in your car are single digits you know you are in for a cold winer. It hasn't snowed since Wednesday, but the snow is still around because it hasn't been above the teens for four days now. BURRRRR! I'm just grateful that we haven't had any more freezing rains. When I was at BYU I thought it was cold weather, but one of my roommates was from Alaska and she would constantly tell me that it wasn't that cold. Well Shan, I think I finally understand what you were talking about, Utah was nothing compared to this. I am such a whimp when it comes to cold weather. Can I just say I love heated car seats!

Christmas Break

For the past several weeks I have been taking a vacation from the blogging world and from Nebraska. Hollyn and I left for Arizona the first of December, while Dan finished his finals and came a few weeks later. We had a great time escaping the snow and ice for the beautiful Arizona weather. Now I understand why Arizona has so many snowbirds and we are becoming one of them.
It was great to see and hang out with family and friends. While we were gone we had two big birthdays and an anniversary. Dan turned the big 30 and Hollyn turned 3. For Dan's birthday he went to the Fiesta Bowl with my brother Andrew. They had a great time and great seats. They had suite tickets!
For Hollyn's birthday we went to a park with family and friends. Uncle Andrew even got Hollyn a big bouncer for all the kids to play on. They had a blast! I even enjoyed myself, but boy do those bouncers wear you out.
Dan and I also celbrated our seven year anniversary. The time has flow by so fast and I have enjoyed every minute. Dan is an amazing dad, husband, and friend. There is no one that can make me smile and laugh more than Dan. I can't imagine my life without him and I am excited for the new adventures we will have while we are here in Nebraska. I love you Dan!
I hope everyone enjoyed Christmas and New Years. It was great to see so many of you and spend time together. Thanks to everyone for planning partys and get togethers and a big thanks to my parents for letting us stay at their home. You are great hosts! We love you all.

Omaha Lights

Before Hollyn and I left for Arizona, we took a trip to Omaha to see the downtown lights with our friends the Andersons. The lights were pretty, but it was freezing outside, so we didn't stay outside long. We then went to the Winter Quarters Visitors Center to see their Gingerbread display. It was incredible all the different designs people had made out of gingerbread. There was a theme park, a boat, scout camp and an ice rink and much more. The next day when I went to drop Dan off at school there was ice covering everything. You can see from the pictures some plants infront of the school frozen.
On a side note Dan and I have been debating for a while about my Peru beanie. Let's just say he's not a big fan. I on the other hand love it, because it keeps my ears warm and I think it's cute. No one else has one. So I'm leaving it up to all of you to decide, is it time to retire the beanie or should I keep it?
